Good Lighting

Today I had the opportunity to give another business owner some visual merchandising advise. He was appreciative of the insight into how some basic vm tips could benefit his business and how it could increase his customer traffic.

Lighting to a retail space is just as important as lighting to a residential space.
lighting should be thought of in three parts; overall, task, and accent.

Overall: Simple lighting that lights up the space. Seeing the overall space as a whole.

Task: This lighting gives specific light to complete task in the space; reading, writing, fixing, needing specific light to complete a specific task to be accomplished in an area within the space.

Accent: Use this light to highlight specific merchandise, art, architectural design, etc. This is usually accomplished by using a form of spot lighting or track lighting.

Incorporate these three elements of lighting and you will create an intriguing space.
