DECK THE HALLS...

Thanksgiving and Black Friday are behind us and it is time to "Deck The Halls". How will you be decorating your space this season?  What theme will you base your decorating around? And who will be joining you to pull it all off?

If you read my previous postings, you read that when I helped my client with their space I established a theme in the beginning of the process. Creating a plan makes all the difference in the journey to the final outcome. Pick your colors, style and budget. Yes I said budget.  You can spend a whole lot of money on Christmas decorations. Envision your final presentation.

I had the privileged to have a team of wonderful people to get the job done. If you have this opportunity the more the merrier. However, you must have a point person to pull it off smoothly. Design by committee can be challenging without the proper guidance. State your vision to the team, but allow adjustments and input along the way from the team. My team Rocked!!!

Wreath Season Is Here: post 2

So, now the wreath is all dry and already for decorating. The first thing I like to do is to place the lights on the wreath placing it in V pattern from inner to outer moving around the wreath. I found these wonderful battery operated LED lights. I like battery lit lights because you can place your wreath in areas that have no source of electricity.  Remember you do not have to fill your wreath up excessively to make a statement. My motto is "simplicity is beauty". Keep it simple and elegant.

Next attach the bow; I like placing the bow on the least dense area of the wreath, placing the ornaments in a  symmetrical pattern. It is important to try to keep everything in balance, colors, textures etc. Well there u have it designing a wreath with ease, now go deck those halls. ;0)

Wreath Season Is Here: post 1

Its Christmas Season. Time to deck the halls. Yeah! 

Just want to take the time to share with you one of my favorite things to do for the holidays. Maybe I can help you make your hall decking a little bit easier as I share my progress here on my blog.

I first started with evaluating my space. Since I am decking the church sanctuary; and dealing with a much larger space, I will be calculating at higher quantities to accomplish my design. But the same applies to any space.

I started with establishing three colors and a theme.  My theme here is chocolate covered cherries; based on the color scheme of the sanctuary. I love the combination of chocolate, red and silver. I felt these three Colors would set right with the decor of my space.

Now time to shop online or in stores.  In my case I shopped for Christmas Trees, ornaments, and wreaths. Note you can fine some good buys online.

After gathering all your purchases its time to begin the prep work. Today I began with putting the wreaths together. Using quality artificial wreaths are great; they can give you years of use. Today the detailing of artificial wreaths make it difficult to distinguish between them and the real deal.

I placed out my wreaths, one by one and began the process of attaching my pine cones. After this, I added my artificial snow to each. I chose to add the snow to soften the contrast of the dark green wreath against the cream color wall it will be placed upon.  Remember to read the directions carefully before applying. Application of each brand can differ. Although this brand said "will dry in ten minutes"; I am giving it a day before decorating the wreath. Stay toned...

ASID Student Career Day 2012: NYDC

A day well spent. Five hours of priceless information.  First I want to thank my friend Lynn from Living Hive Design LLC for the invitation. I enjoyed my day at the Students Career Day 2012. The people from the ASID where so wonderful. The hospitality was top notch from the beginning to the end of the event. Each speaker on the panels represented their subject with excellence. They shared real life experiences with such a level of transparency; making this event valuable to all that attended. At the end of each session there was a brief Q&A. There was Good interaction between the audience and the guest speakers. 

The subjects:"Where do you fit in?"  "Draping of fabrics"  "If walls 'could talk..."  and  "The construction team" were all shared with great detail within the window of time given.

There were opportunities given to network and socialize. Every contact was meaningful. Getting to know the speakers was also rewarding. Thank you ASID and guest speakers for a job well done.

What can i say about this day? I am really speechless. So i will let the photos tell the story. I left Lagos and headed west to a town named Abeokuta.
